Last year when Halloween came we had been in Sweden for a little less than a month. We had heard that Halloween was not celebrated in Sweden so we went to Denmark to the Tivoli for a Halloween festival and that was all we did to celebrate Halloween. (remember these?)
Well this year we are much more settled and we realized that some people do celebrate Halloween. And we could do many of the same things to celebrate that we would do if we lived in the United States, so we bought a big pumpkin and we carved it!
A is scooping the goop!!
L is not quite sure what to make of the goop!
A helped to draw the face on the pumpkin and Ray carved it.
We put a candle in it and it became a jack-o-latern!
We also bought a few small pumpkins that L loved to play with. Eventually we baked this and scooped the meat out to make pumpkin muffins!
We also went to a few Halloween parties and dressed up!
Here we are dressed as sushi!! (our first family costume!)
A trick or treating!
And L's first trick or treat!
The party was held in a kids play area called Skatterkammeron (translated Treasure Island).
L with his good friends Ayla and Volcan
A and L with Miriam.
And we even went trick or treating on Halloween but it was not too successful. In Sweden you say, "boos or goodis" and people will either give nothing (about 60% of the apartments we went to) or candy. It was fun even though we got barely any candy! My fellow teacher Anca invited us over for dinner and the kids had fun playing so no one even cared about the candy!
